Where Birds Don't Fly- opening scene & titles

Mise en scene: There are police officer outfits and the crime scene is based in a house. This can create tension by the fact that there has been a murder and the audience are curious to know what type of murder it was because the detectives seem shocked.

Camera: There are extreme close ups of the two police officers, Curtis and his co worker. This can create tension to show the reaction of the two when Curtis's co worker says that the crime scene looks really bad and that he doesn't want to go first again especially when the murder has got to do with kids. again this can build up tension because the audience feels bad that innocent children have been murdered.

Editing: When Curtis is walking towards the entrance of the house there is a slow motion effect, showing other police officers/ detectives walk out the house and you can see their reaction to the murder case, there is someone  shaking their head and another putting their hand on their mouth. This can create tension by the fact that we want to know what has really happened because people seemed to be really shocked, it makes us think that this murder case is very extreme.

Sound: At the start of the opening of the film you can hear the ambient sound of the wind and it shows you that the weather is not quite bright, which could represent the fact that, that day was very miserable because some children just got murdered. There is also the diegetic sound of police officers talking through their walkie talkies. These sounds can create tension because it could represent the fact that there is a lot of chaos because there is a serious murder case to solve and that it has effected the detectives.

Titles: At the very start of the Movie there is a verse from The Bible, there is a black background and it is written in white and the font is sans serif. The opening titles are shown 11 minutes into the movie. There is a black background and the titles are in white the font is sans serif and all the titles are in capitals. The titles do not fade in or out they just appear on the screen and the title lasts for about 40 seconds. There is background music, the song is slow and calm and I'm assuming that the song is called 'Where birds don't fly' because from the lyrics you can hear the singer singing the words 'where birds don't fly' which is also the exact same title/name of the movie.

By Appointment Only - opening scene & titles

Mise en scene: Val (the lady in the scene) is dressed casually and her husband which is at home, is dressed in a suit, this suggests that the husband is a business man and he also looks a bit worried this can create tension because he might be trying to commit suicide due to all the stress at work. the fact that Val and her husband live in a mansion could suggest that they are wealthy, this could also suggest that they have so many bills to pay that it can get stressful because Val's family might be going broke.

Camera: Val's husband is reading a letter and there is a pov shot of the letter that the husband is reading and the key word in this letter is the word 'bankruptcy' this is the key word because you cannot see any of the other sentences in that letter because they are cut off but the word bankruptcy stands out the most and this is suggesting that Val's family are going broke and this can create tension because this can put a lot of pressure on Val's husband which can lead him to suicidal thoughts.

Editing: there is parallel editing between Val who is driving and talking on the phone and her husband who is at home going through this letter and the scenes keep switching back and forth from Val and her husband, this creates tension because you can see that the husband is reaching for his gun and then it switches to Val talking on the phone, this makes the scene seem very chaotic because there is a lot going on.

Titles: The titles start to appear about 2 minutes and 20 seconds into the movie, the titles are in white, the font is sans serif also the font is a bit small. The titles fade in and out of the screen. The titles last for about 2 minutes, the backgrounds being used are shots of the beach, boats and mansions also one of the characters is driving to a house and the titles stop/finish, when he has arrived to the house.

Borgman - opening scene & titles

Mise en scene: At the beginning of the scene there is a dog, the dog can create tension to the viewers because it is quiet a large dog, the dog could mean that there might be danger because dogs that are left outside the house usually are there to guard their owner's property. The opening of this film is based in a forest where there isn't much going on, this can create tension because in the forest there might be danger.

Camera: There is a long take of the man that lives under the ground. This creates tension because there is a lot of darkness,it could also be used to show that audience around the dark space under the grounnd, also the priest and his men might be after him, which could suggest there is not a lot of hiding places for the man to hide, from the priest.

Editing: When the priest and his men arrive at the location where the dog starts barking; it can sense that the person that they are after, the guy that lives under the ground. There is a shot reverse shot between the men and the priest breaking the roof of the other man's underground house and the guy that lives in the house that is trying to escape, this creates tension because the audience is hoping that the man can escape from the priest without being seen.

Sound: There is very little dialogue, which creates tension because there are people that are sharpening their weapons and there is also a priest that is trying to kill someone which is not normal for a priest to do, it makes the audience wonder what is going on and why this is happening. also at the beginning of the scene there is ambient sound of a dog barking which makes the audience jump the barking could represent danger which can create tension.

Titles: The titles start right at the beginning of the movie, at first there is a black background and the title of the company of the film fades in, it is written in capitals with a sans serif font. After that there is a blue to black ombre background colour and the title of the film 'Borgman' rotates from being upside down to its normal position. The title is in blue, capitals and sans serif font.

Lost highway,opening scene

Camera: extreme close up of the buzzer/ door bell speaker creates tension, makes the viewer wonder what they are going to hear. There is a mid shot of the main character but there isn't a lot of lighting in it, this could suggest that there is also tension because you cannot see him properly. There is also a long take when the main character looks out of the window, this can create suspense because the audience might be wondering if there is anyone outside the door.

Mise en scene: it is shot in an apartment, it looks like a modern apartment owned by a wealthy person, this could create suspense by suggesting that the man in the house is rich and so he may be a target to others because he probably got his money from gambling.

Editing: There is an eyeline match, when the guy in the flat looks out the window to see if he can see the person that was speaking to him on the doorbell speaker. This can create tension because it makes the audience wonder where the person outside the flat went or if this person is going to break into the glat and kill the guy that lives in it.

Sound: there is very little dialogue in this scene, the only dialogue in this clip is when the main character answers the door bell and there is an unknown person speaking but that person doesn't speak much, this creates suspense because everything is silent and it makes the audience wonder what will happen next or make them wonder what is going on.
